Artist Statement
I have sought to re-imagine what classical, romantic Realism painting can be in the 21st century. My painting is a meditation on themes drawn from literature and art, specifically the Renaissance, the Pre-Raphaelites, and the Dutch Golden Age.
Lately, I have been drawn to still lifes of interior objects while maintaining my interest in figures. I believe that studying light, shapes, and patterns can convey interior intimacy. Using oil paint with accents of silver and gold, I aim to create a “magical” realism that transcends the present moment. I cherish the fusion of my daily experiences with the elegance and beauty of classical subjects.
